(Review of Neo-Sonic by Matty Hedgehog)
The first in Manic Team's (who's yo daddy?) games of the classic Neo Sonicseries. These game I think was made in Klik n' Play the worst enemy of Sonic fan gamers but Manic Team like Aytac Aksu and Jamie Bailey actually made a good game out of it.
Despite not being able to scroll on levels it is still HUGE in levels being a challenge to beat the bots and retrieve the new Neo Emeralds before Eggman does.
(Graphics)
Sonic looks rather weird.I think he's an edited Sonic 3 sprite but with new facial features and new running animation.
Tails and the tornado are from Sonic 2 I believe and backgrounds both are original and Sonic games.
The town with the pagoda's (I think I'll call it Chinatown Zone or something like that) is my favourite and also bumpers from Carnival Night Zone.
(Sound)
I'M THE SCATMAN!!!OK, you may think I'm crazy right now but it has Scatman John's tune as the main theme?!
Yep I certainly haven't heard THAT tune in a long long time!
Yes this game's got much more than Sonic tunes, a couple of old Sonic favourites are in there Act completed from Sonic 2 and of course the overused game-gear act intro from Sonic 2.
also the Midnight Entrance music is used on the Jungle Zone.
Sounds - Sonic's old jump noise is all but gone in this game and is replaced by... a KNP boing?!
Ah well at least the ring still makes the old dinging noise that we all know and recognise!
Also when you destroy bandiks a cool explosion noise is heard.
This makes a change from the POP! noise heard and I wonder where Manic Team got the noise.
(Presentation)
No scrolling but then it IS Klik and Play.Only one KN'P game managed to fully scroll, The Fast Revelation.
This features ring loss which is good but there are wall bugs in this game which are not Manic Team's fault - it's nasty wall bugs which make games worse.
You must collect all the rings until a zone is completed and is very challenging despite KN'P's wall bugs and Sonic's jumpiness.
(Gameplay)
quite good for KN'P and this game shows it although you can't what's going on in that bit where the badniks fly by since they went past rather fast! The game has cut-scenes which are good.
Also you also get to see this one featuring a fox which looks like Tails' Grandfather or something like that!!!!!
(Conclusion)
A good game with different music to what you would expect in a Sonic Fan Game.Manic Team deserve a 8/10 since only the bugs and the Sonic jump when you're hit let's it down.
Neo Sonic 3 will definitely have some improvement since it's in Cn'C a much better gaming engine.
