(Review of Sonic Epoch by Andrew Burghart)
This game is a must. You have to get it.
Believe me, regaurdless of the size, its one excellent game with a well thought out plot!
(My favorite part is where Tails starts beating Sonic's Face in... Payback for when you killed him in Sonic 2).
Graphics: Even though some of the graphics are a tad jumpy (for example, when robotnik throws, Snively into the Transporter).
And Some thing like Sally are drawn in too but still looks good.
Well the graphics kick!!!
Some things are hand drawn and look....... great!
A majority is copied though, but it doesn't matter at all.
The colors are magnificent.
The detail is simple.... but it really feels like your floating up in the air!!!
And look how those bricks are lined up.... it's Sonic and his freinds!
Sound: Cool Music as well as sound effects.
It uses voices from the cartoon show too!
Gameplay: High.
This is a game I'll play until I beat it.
The Bottom Line Aside from the little things, this game is almost perfect so I give it an A!
Score: A

Despite its large size, You have to download this game. Its a Dos game so it runs very smoothly.
Even though its a demo, it may take a while to beat!
Graphics: The Graphics are also from the cartoon (some looked edited but were still cool!)
Sound: Uses Actual Clips from the Cartoon as well as cool music!
Gameplay: This game is like an Rpg and a Platformer mix.
Kill Enemies... Gain Experience, and carry around items.
The Bottom Line Aside from the little things, this game is almost perfect so I give it an A!

a 5 meg game, does that mean anything to you?!& we're only at demo 1!!).
Graphics: Uses animations, pics,& graphics from the SatAM cartoon, but also has it's share of game graphics.
But boy are they a WOW!!
Sound: Over 6 sound cards.
Over 6 music cards.
Music & sounds are smoothe with now signs of chopiness.
GREAT MUSIC!!!!
Gameplay: The game is outstanding to play with.
It's an RPG,platformer,& a slideshow cartoon all in 1.
The story has great depth (I have the story[so far] from the creator.),& the amount of characters make for 1 great story.
Controls & frame rate is smoother than butter.
& most importantly, it's fun.
The Bottom Line Great Graphics,Cool Sounds, Excellent Gameplay, long Lastability......this game has it all!
A must-play!!
A+ for Sonic Epoch!!!
Score: A+

Epoch.Anyone not heard of this game yet?
If you haven't, then you've obviously been either hanging out
A) under a rock or
B)under a rock.
Its the only excuse.
This game has quite literally taken the SFG scene by storm, creating the amount of hype seen previously only hy SRB2.
It's easy to see why.
But its also easy to overlook its faults, and of these there are many.
First off:
Graphics: Good graphics don't make a good game.
And thats probably a good thing, since epochs graphics are..well..not particulary great.
On the plus side, they are straight out of the SatAM series for the most part.
This goes a long way to recreating the atmosphere of the TV, an important point.
Unfortunatly, despite the good ideas and use of the graphics, the actual sprites and BG's themselves.....well.....they suck.
And I mean suck.
Everything is horribly grainy.
The inclusion of the occasional sprite from the original games, which come out perfectly in the res, really loses any sense of continuity.
However, despite the shabby presentation, the atmosphere is captured perfectly in them.
So....are the graphics good or bad.....hmmm.
If they were cleared up then they would be perfect.
Sound: Generally quite good.
The sound is good quality and the inclusion of voices at certain moments is a really nice touch.
My one complain in this department is the damn sound that plays every time you run.
The same sound effect.
Over.
And over.
And over.
ARGH!
I know it plays in the TV series, but this isn't TV, its a game.
And it makes me want to rip out my speakers and see how bigger dent in the wall I can make.
That one problem aside, the sound is amazing.
Gameplay: Right.
I'm not going to beat around the bush on this one.
The gameplay sucks.
Well, maybe that was a bit harsh...no it wasn't.
The gameplay sucks.
I'm going to explain why.
First off....
That damn sonic/sally sprite takes up a huge portion of the screen and moves so fast its impossible to see if somethings going to hit you half the time.
The level design is also bad, with many "leaps of faith" in the hope you land on a platform, as well as silly object placement and fustrating puzzles.
The whole thing served more to fustrate me than make me smile.
On the plus side the inclusion of Sally is a nice touch and adds a whole new spin on the game.
The powerup backpack system works really well, and the levels have their moments.
Just not enough of them.
Story: Normally I wouldn't put this in, but this is an action RPG, so its kinda neccessary.
Plus its also the games main selling point, so its gotta have its own section really.
First off the charecters. This is where Epoch really does shine.
Each and every charecter is presented brilliantly.
Sonic gets his wise-cracks in at just the right moments.
The new look badass tails is a brilliant character and really adds to it.
(Being a demo, I obviously don't know the whole plot....but he's gotta backstab sonic somewhere :) ).
Only character who did seem a bit off is Sonic-2 who I think would come across more threatning if he simply said nothing, just ruitlessly carrying out his tasks.
A robot with self-expression....hmm....doesn't seem to quite work.
However, with this small niggling (and its just a personal opinion, many others may disagree) all the charecters seem to be caught perfectly.
As for the plot.....urm....suspect.
It never feels like its heading anywhere.
In almost all good storys, the final parts are almost set up early on, so the reader or player or whatever knows what the charecters are trying to accomplish.
In star wars, you knew the death star would be attacked by the rebels sooner or later, you just didn't know how or when.
Epoch seems to lack this.
After multiple hours play, I wasn't sure quite what I was doing except wondering around beating up robots.
The Bottom Line First off all, I have sounded really negetive about this game.
The trouble with epoch is that what it does well it does spectaculary well.
When it does something bad though it almost ruins the game.
It captures a SatAM tv ep almost perfectly....but this isn't a TV episode.
Its a game.
And the game part is....less than spectacular.
Still....
Its Epoch!
Some people love it, some hate it....me....I'm undecided.
At least download the demo and try it out.
Its easily good enough to recommend that.....v
You can pay me later :D
