(Review of Sonic S-V by Miles McCloud)
Sonic SV1 is One Of those Classic Games That Appear Out of no-where.Diablohead, The Creator, Released it With No Hype At all.
It Just appeard In The games Section of SFGHQ one Morning.
A Rare thing today.
He has Sense Came to Be well Known By many SFGHQ'ers.
And his Next 2 Projects, Sonic SV2, And Diablo SV2, Are Among The most Anticipated Sonic fan-games of today.
I'm Going To Break Things Into 4 Groups, Graphics, Sound,Plot, And Gameplay.
Graphics And Game Play Being the Most Importent, Are Each worth 10 Points.
Sound is Worth 5, And Plot is Worth 2.
Graphics- The first Thing You'll Notice Is The word "Diablohead" Swirled Around The screen.
It all Ends Up With A Good Result.
Then You will see The title Screen.
Nothing Ultra-special, But title-screens and Logos Are not Importent.
After starting the game, You See Super Sonic plowing Over the Water At Top speed [Sonic 3 anyone?] Except it All Looks Better Then Sonic 3.
The water Spray Is Translucent, With A Glare Effect Over It all, Then sonic Will Bump Into Diablo, Who is A edit of A Sonic 2 Super Sonic.
He then Steals Sonics emeralds And Runs Off.
[Hmm, Yep, Definatly A revisin of The sonic 3 intro].
then You see A Nicely Mouse Arted Chair, With A Moustetach[sp?]
Coming around the Corner.
the Figure reachs Out and Presses A Button, Making something happen On the screen In Front Of Him.
[I never Could Figure It out].
Hmmmmmmmmm, I Wonder Who That Is ;p.
Then the game Starts.
The first Level, Emerald Grove, is A mixture Of Palmtree panic Present,And Original Things.
Sonic Is A Heavily Edited Sonic?
Sprite, And Looks Excellent.
Then the Next level, Mine Cart Escape, is 100% Originil.
It Isn't Showoffboy or CPC Quality, But Good Nonetheless.
After The First Act, A Mine Chase insues.
I Won't Ruin Anything, But wait till You see Sonics Eyes!
Then comes The level I Forgot The name of. ^_^.
It was Windy Something, And is Downright Spectacular.
Its A Mix Of Original things, And The TGF Library.
And comes Off As My Favorite level in The game.
After that Comes bridge Zone, 100% Original, And then sonic Runs Back Into Diablo.
Sonic doesn't look Happy to see Him, And Eggman Doesn't look happy to see Sonic.
Eggman Creates A Beam Thingy, And Diablo Pulls A Incredible Hulk Manuever, And Throws A 17ton Weight On Sonics Head.
smashing Sonic Into the Ground.
thats When My Computer Decided To Crash.
0_o.
A Glare Effect is Used Alot, And the levels Have lots Of Nice details.
Grade=8/10
Gameplay.
Ok, First Thing A Noticed about Gameplay, Was The Fact that Spikes Are Evil.
One Hit, And BOOM! you are dead.
Same Thing with Bottomless Pits.
This Made Me Quite Paranoid, and caused Me to Move slowly, Very slowly, Through the levels.
This Is ok, But This is Sapposed To Be A sonic game.
And I See Far Too many Fan-games Fall To Their Doom Because Of it.
Screwed Difficult Ramp.
the First Level was the hardest Of Those That I played.
Too many Spikes and blind Jumps.
While This Is Good, And Adds To The Challenge, The Next Couple Of Levels are Easier.
This Doesn't take Away The Fun Completely Though.
Another thing, There Is No Ringloss.
You have A Health Bar Instead. But This Was Common During That Era Of Fan-games.
The Slopes Are Almost Perfect, you can Climb And run Down Slopes Without suddenly Flying out into Space.
If I'm Not mistaken, This Was The First game To Use A Ball Engine Helper Thingamobob.
Replay Value is Average, The game Is hard, And With No save Function, Or passwords, its Very hard.
for some People this Is Bad.
For some People, Who are Willing to try Several Times To make It through A Tough Spot, This Is fine.
Grade 6½/10. Sound- Not As Inportent As The Others, but Who wants To Play A game Without Sound?
The Cut-scenes Have Music I Couldn't identifly, But they Fit.
The First Zone had Green Hill Music, And It Fit.
But It Could Have Been Better.
The Next zone, Had Red Mountain, From SA, Music, And Fit well.
Then, Windy ??? Zone, Had Windy Valley, And Fit Beatifully.
Putting the finishing touch on this Magnificent level.
Then Bridge Zone, had Another Unidentifyable Tune.
it Matched the Zone To A T.
Then After That It Hung up. Sound effects were Quite good.
Whenever Sonic Hits A obstacle, it plays A "THUMP" Noise.
I haven't Heard This kinda Thing in many fan-games, And was a nice touch.
Then There was A Barely Audible Noise that Plays During jumping, But thats better then having the Classic jump >_<.
You can Adjust The Volume of It At the Options.
Grade 4/5
Plot- Oh no!
Who is That Mysterious Black Hedgehog?
Sonics Emerald as been Stolen, And Eggman Must Be Behind It!
Its Your Average Plot, With the addition Of Diablo.
Grade 1½/2
Ok then, Lets Figure out the Final grade.
Graphics 8/10
Gameplay 7/10
Sound 4/5
Plot 1½/2
With A Maximum Of 27 Points, Diablo Scores A 20½!
*Pulls Out Calculater*
Thats A 76%.
*Convert To Letter* C+. But Wait!
Rlan Has No "F" Thus Pushing It Up A Rank.
So he Final Grade isssssssssssssss A B+ !!
