(Review of Sonic Ultra 2 by Rlan)
This game is obviously the Sequel to last months (Yes, Greg doesn’t take long to make a game) hit Sonic Ultra. Some bugs it SU have now been fixed, Unfortunately they have also brought new ones to the horizon.
Completely New Special Stages (scrapped the old "3D" catch the flickies) and in its place is a sort of Breakout game (Sonic Brick in other words).
The Levels are longer, and there are now power ups! Also (a few) Bosses are actually challenging to beat!
Graphics Using the same things as what SU1 used, which is Placed from Sonic 3/1, makes it look rather nice, obviously you’ll recognize them all (Unless your some petty person who has never played A Sonic game).
One thing found in SU1 was that Sonic was terribly under-framed.
Greg tried to fix this up a bit, but didn’t get far.
Sonic ONLY upgraded in the walk department (by 2 frames) but still looks like he’s missing something.
Also when Sonic becomes invincible, You won’t notice by the look.
Sonic is exactly the same except he can run through Badniks.
The springs have been made better.
Yet there seems to be very few springs in it now.
Sound Will anyone actually get NEW music for Sonic Fan Games?
No one knows...
Anywho… All Midis go for that level etc, etc.
(yawn).
The Basic Sonic Samples (Jump) has risen from the grave once again.
Although the Invincible Music (from Chaotix) is pretty good, but basically the same As usual.
Gameplay Seems Gameplay is full of bugs.
First off, When Sonic moves left, he moves far away from where he should.
About 2 inches.
This is caused by making the Sonic a Backwards Copy of itself, L&R, making it happen, this could be avoided by just making the sprites turn, but unfortunately this is not in this game, this makes it extremely hard to go a few places, Take Sandalopolis Zone for example.
Near the start of the level there are many things you must jump up, But because of the Above, Sonics Jump is 2 inches away, so you have to try to make Sonic Move backwards into the area.
Lastability Longer levels have been introduced into this game, and these are kinda of a plus, BUT unfortunately most of he extra basically is long strips of land.
Also there has been a lot more Badguys in each level, But only concede of One type of Bot.
The game doesn’t take too long to finish, But trying to get all the Chaos emeralds and finishing is a task.
The Bottom Line A great game yet faulted by quite a few bugs, which need Ironing out.
If Sonic didn’t move so damn stupidly and other things had been done, it could possibly get a A.
Alas, A B is shall Be
