Welcome to the island of Sonyc!
In this intricate setting, one of the most exciting adventures ever created for the MSX standard is going to take place.
Get ready to run at breakneck speed, defy the law of gravity with impressive jumps, explore frozen caves, walk through a forest of giant trees, walk among tropical palm trees, fight fierce enemies, collect hundreds of rings and even search for treasure!
All this and much more is what awaits you at SONYC.
This is the first game to really exploit the technical features of the V9958 video chip.
Until now, games were only limited to displaying a few screens in thousands of colors, but finally a game takes advantage of the most powerful feature of this VDP: ultra-fast and smooth scrolling in all directions, which allows SONYC to be one of the games fastest technically and gameplay-wise ever created for an 8-bit computer.
SONYC requires minimal equipment to function.
Unfortunately this game does NOT work on second generation MSX and is exclusive for MSX2+ and MSX turbo R users, although it does work on MSX2 equipped with the V9958 video chip.
The minimum requirements are:
MSX computer equipped with V9958
128Kb of RAM
128Kb of VRAM
MSX-Music (FM-PAC)
Optionally Moonsound is also supported.
Moonsound is a sound system based on the Yamaha OPL4 chip that provides exceptional stereo sound quality on MSX using wavetable technology.
In case of having Moonsound and MSX-Music, SONYC will use first to reproduce the sound, obtaining a much higher quality of music and effects during the game.
